Magicians

Having read over reviews of this film, people either love it or loathe it. I think that possibly, Mitchell and Webb fans will probably love it - and everyone else will loathe it.

Possibly.

The story is an uncomplicated one - a pair of magicians (Mitchell / Webb) fall out after one of their tricks goes wrong, and someone's head is separated from their body by a guillotine. Several years later, the pair end up reuniting in a magic competition on Jersey.

There you go. Uncomplicated.

It's all safe stuff. If from that I told you to guess the plot, you probably could. The film takes no big chances. Safe, y'see?

Which sounds like I've so far given it a panning, but I'm not - it's just that it's one of those films you can watch and feel untaxed by, because you know where it's all going. The pair bounce off each other in a similar manner to the way they do in Peep Show. It's all reassuring stuff and there's a few more British comedians that come out to back the whole thing up. You won't break ribs laughing, but it'll bring a smile to your face at times - and as long as it does that, there's no harm done.

And if you don't want to watch it now, don't be surprised when it's on telly in about a years time.

So there you go. It's an "OK" sort of film. Not amazing. Not crap. OK?
